Lose Weight with Meal Replacements?

The February issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports on a weight loss study that observed success with nutritionally balanced meal replacements. The 27-month long study followed 100 obese patients in Germany.
All patients were prescribed the same amount of calories a day. Patients on traditional diets lost an average of three pounds in three months. Those who ate two meal replacements and two snack bars and one sensible meal a day lost an average of almost 16 pounds.
During the next two years, all patients were transferred to meal replacement plans. They continued to loose weight and show improvement in their health, lowering blood pressure, blood fat and insulin levels.
