Welcome to Travel and Vacations

Welcome to Travel and Vacations

Hi,

I am so happy to meet you! I'm Cheryl, manager of the Travel and Vacations group here at ThirdAge. My job is to get things rolling, then stand aside so the members can have fun, make friends, and share their experiences. This really is your group!

We can talk about anything that's on your mind. Are gas prices putting a crimp in your travel plans? Are you a Disney park addict? (You know who you are!) Do you work 50 weeks a year just so you can spend two glorious weeks exploring Europe each summer?

Whether you are a newbie to travel or a seasoned sojourner, you are welcome to post a question, answer a call for help, or just troll for ideas. (Oops! Don't like that word "troll." If you're one, please try the Games Games Games group).

Best to you,

Cheryl

Introduction

Hi, I'm new to ThirdAge and to this group. I own/run/do everything Yellow Bear Journeys - an ecotour company. We go to Hawaii and Pacific NW. Somebody asked about the Caribbean. I would avoid it during hurricane season.
I've been to Spain, Saudi Arabia, Columbia. It's been ages, so I'm sure things have changed, but I'd be happy to share what I can.

Crusing Advice?

Hi there! For my wife's and my 40th wedding anniversary next year, we want to go on a cruise. But between the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and everywhere else, we don't know where to start. Can anyone lend some friendly advice? Or tell me a bit about a personal experience you've had that might help us get pointed in a direction? We'd like to start planning sooner rather than later. Thanks . . .

I would suggest cruising in

I would suggest cruising in the southern Caribbean. The weather is generally always perfect! Check out school vacation dates, and don't plan your cruise during those weeks or you'll be inundated with kids. I'd go with a mid-priced line (we love Royal Caribbean) and spend the extra money for a room with a balcony. Find a room towards the middle of the ship and a higher floor for the smoothest sail. Have fun!

Hello to you! Cruising for

Hello to you! Cruising for me is a plus no matter what the itinerary takes me.  You had not mentioned if you have cruised before or where you live, because some of the ports are closer that other, as you know with flight and time management.

I suggest you look over the cruise brochures and depending on your interests, heatlh and weather, enjoy enjoy enjoy!

Egypt

My college-age son is traveling to Egypt this summer, and I've heard tourists are treated very well there. Still, it makes me nervous that he is going to be there. (He has a friend he met at an international camp who has been asking him to come visit, so he will be with an Egyptian family for part of his stay).
Has anyone had any experience traveling in Egypt?
