Common sense is instinct. Enough of it is genius. -- George Bernard Shaw

This weekend I saw a play by George Bernard Shaw, Major Barbara.  It was a play about morality and perception and how they can differ depending upon one’s point of view. Much like the notion; in life you can justify anything.

Yoga teaches us to follow our inner guidance or our spiritual force. We call it intuition or instinct. It is that quiet place that speaks to you from a centered and grounded stance.  Away from this place where the inner voice of instinct and intuition can be heard is the world of noise, chaos, and stress.  Decisions and action should only be made after an evaluation of the facts and then taking the time to listen to that inner voice.  Each time we deny it we wish we had listened.  We have all had these experiences.

George Bernard Shaw was perhaps right in that if you take the time to really listen to your instinct you probably can solve a problem, discover something new, learn and grow, and become more aware which is the journey of yoga.  Awareness gives rise to instincts and intuition and perhaps this is genius.
Awareness in yoga is the ever long journey of discovering the mystery of life. The mystery is that the most important purpose of existence is to understand life.  Life can only understand when we take the time to observe and contemplate.  Observation and contemplation come about when we learn to quiet the mind.  When the mind quiets instincts and intuition unfold.

As your mind quiets more energy flows through what yogis call your physical/mental vehicle. This vehicle (the body-mind) allows us to experience life. Its purpose is to gather energy. The energy is then transferred to the chakras which are energy centers located along the spinal column. Each chakra represents an aspect of consciousness, mode of behavior, or perspective and is an important etheric counterpart of an important nerve center or gland. There are eight major chakras. When our energy is flowing freely through all of them, we can easily be complete and fulfilled.
The sixth center located at the brow area is called the third eye. Through this sixth center we master our minds and pierce the veil of illusion. Our awareness becomes the ability to focus.

When our third eye is in balance we have a meditative mind, the ability to know the unknown, see the unseen and an understanding of destiny.   Listening to our Instincts and intuitions allow us to realize the unknown and the unseen, and isn’t this genius …the ability to simply know without question.
Follow your instincts and your intuition. Let them be your guide.
