Anyone thought about retiring to Mexico?

My wife and I are thinking about retiring early, but we don't really have enough set aside to make it work. My brother-in-law is trying to convince me that Mexico is a great place to retire. He says it's inexpensive and very friendly toward American retirees. We've never been to Mexico, but it does sound nice. Does anyone else have any firsthand experience with this? Especially, how much a house would cost. I've seen a lot of web sites on the subject, but most of them seem like hype rather than reliable information. JW
