Dear ThirdAge Editors:
Help! Despite my efforts to avoid a shore-induced sunburn, I’m lobster red and starting to peel! What can I do to lessen the peeling that I'm sure will come?
We all know that spending loads of time lying out in the sun is a major no-no. Gone are the days when we thought nothing harmful could come of the hours on the beach, slathering on baby oil and tanning oils for a dark tan.
So, that said, I won’t lecture you on the harmful effects of the sun. You can read plenty about that on our Health page.
Now you’re feeling the burn, so what can you do to slow down the process of shedding?
Your best bet is to keep your skin hydrated. When you shower, make sure you use hydrating gels or creams, and add some essential oils to your bath water.
Don’t use body scrubs, loofahs, or washcloths -- they’ll only exacerbate the impending shedding.
