You know that old adage, "you are what you eat"? What can I put on my plate to make my skin look and feel better?
I know you’re a proponent of the old “you are what you eat” adage. That said, what can I put on my plate to improve my skin texture and protect it from premature aging?
You’re right; I do believe that what you put into your body directly affects its appearance and I have written at length on what you should/shouldn’t eat to improve your skin. Simply put, it’s all about healthy variety when you hit the grocery store. The next time you take your weekly shopping trip, make sure to stock up on these six things to keep your skin youthful and supple:
1. Lean meats, lentils, and eggs. These protein-packed staples are important for new skin cells and skin repair. The iron in the protein takes oxygen to your cells all over your body -- including to your hair follicles.
2. Peanut butter, avocado, almonds. These all are a great source of vitamin E, which is a strong antioxidant that keeps skin cells healthy.
3. Berries, broccoli, oranges, red peppers. Vitamin C protects against premature aging and is important in collagen production and skin elasticity.
4. Mango, apricots, carrots, sweet potatoes. Another antioxidant important in guarding against premature aging is beta carotene, which has a role in the growth and repair of the skin.
5. Salmon, walnuts, flaxseed. These omega-3-rich foods keep the cells that make up your skin healthy.
6. Water. Your body is more than 60% water and it’s what keeps skin moist and hydrated. Remember, for every alcoholic beverage you drink or cup of coffee or soda with caffeine, you should drink a glass of water to combat dehydration.
