Viagra For Pregnancy

Turns out that Viagra may help women with poor uterine linings get pregnant, according to a study published in the Journal Human Reproduction. Three of four women undergoing infertility treatment conceived after beginning Viagra treatments, the study said.

Infertility specialist Geoffrey Sher, M.D., of the Sher Institute for Reproductive Medicine, had the oral drug, which increases blood flow in certain muscles, fashioned into a vaginal supplement to improve local absorption and blood flow through the uterus.

That caused a rapid improvement in uterine blood flow, followed by a significant improvement of endometrial development in women who previously had failed to conceive. They had failed to conceive after several attempts at advanced fertility treatments, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), according to Dr. Sher. None of the women experienced any Viagra-related side effects.

"This problem affects about one out of 20 women who come to us for IVF," said Dr. Sher. But because the initial study tested only four women, it precludes a "definitive conclusion regarding the effectiveness of the such treatment," said Dr. Sher. The success of the therapy warrants further investigation of the treatment, he said.
