Staying Warm in Style

Chilly at the Office
QUESTION: My office space is rather cold. What can I wear to stay warm without looking dowdy or unprofessional?
ANSWER: No matter what the season, most office buildings are kept at a cool temperature. But to stay warm, you don't have to succumb to a zip-up sweatshirt or a bulky sweater. Instead, try one of these pieces:
- A pashmina or wool wrap. Keep it folded over the back of your chair, and drape it around your shoulders or even your lap when you feel a chill. For the most subtle effect, choose a neutral color, such as charcoal or black. Or add a shot of color with a bright wrap in turquoise or fuchsia.
- A knit sweater-coat. Think of it as a supersized cardigan; today's versions are made of merino wool or cashmere, both of which provide a slim silhouette with a high snuggle-factor. It can even double as a jacket when you need to run across the street to pick up lunch.
- A flannel or wool blazer. It's the most versatile and conservative way to stay warm at the office. Choose one in a neutral color -- ivory, black, camel, brown or gray -- and keep it in your closet or draped over the back of your chair for easy access.
