The worthy cause of your choice could be the big winner if you capture the grand prize in the Paper Mate's Do the Write Thing Contest. No purchase is necessary to enter, but you'll have to bypass the word-processing program on your computer.
Only hand-written entries are accepted, no e-mail. Oct. 31 is the deadline. Would-be philanthropists must write, in 200 words or less -- on an 8 1/2 by 11-inch sheet of paper -- "Why Paper Mate should donate money to an important organization in your life."
The target must be a charity, school or club, tax exempt in the United States or registered in Canada.
Along with the grand prize of $25,000, Paper Mate will award 10 prizes of $1,000 each, and 100 prizes of $500. All prizes will be awarded in the form of checks made out directly to the organization of the winners' choice.
