What to Eat for Glowing Skin
Question: Are there foods that can help me have healthy -- and perhaps less dry -- skin? I try to avoid fatty or greasy foods, I wear sunscreen every day, and I drink at least one liter of water a day, if not two. What can I put in my insides that will help my outsides?
Answer: Wow, am I impressed! Drinking 1-2 liters of water a day is probably the most important step you can take to keep your skin's moisture level up. Most diets contain a significant amount of tea, coffee and soda, which actually dehydrate the body and the skin.
Besides water, make sure that your diet is not extremely low in fat. Sometimes, in an effort to get healthy, people will cut their fat to almost nothing, which can definitely affect the look and suppleness of the skin. Using a low to modest amount of healthy oils such as olive, vegetable, or the oils found in nuts and avocados is a wise move.
Don't forget the fruits and vegetables rich in the antioxidants vitamin C and beta-carotene. These antioxidants help destroy the free radicals that affect cell health and thus overall skin health. When you are in the produce section of the grocery, choose those items that are dark green, red and orange-yellow in color such as cantaloupe, apricots, red and yellow peppers, carrots, greens of all types, kiwi, etc.
