The Use-It-Later Option
Terming their offers deals "to die for," a firm selling burial caskets at retail has taken their operation nationwide -- from California to New York City, claiming it offers savings up to 75 percent below funeral home costs.
Direct Casket, which opened the first retail casket outlet two years ago in Southern California, opens its second East Coast store today -- in Brooklyn - promising delivery within 24 hours to anywhere in the continental United States.
A firm spokesman says all caskets will be stored in the company's warehouses -- or customers can exercise a "take-away" option. The firm now has four stores in California and two on the East Coast.
The spokesman says the caskets are available in 40 styles and range in price from $295 to $3,495. A casket selling for $795 could sell for up to $1,995 if purchased from a funeral home, the spokesman says. For information, call 1-800-73-CASKET.
