Take Care of Your Winter Skin

When the holidays are behind us, the worst of the winter is still ahead. It's worth taking steps to keep your skin from drying out. Beauty expert Peta Bee has some advice on keeping skin smooth and sensuous in the face of the often-raging elements.

The idea, she says, is to retain the natural moisture barriers that protect against the icy cold outdoors and the dry central heating indoors. "The first step," she advises, "is to reduce the temperature of showers slightly."

Bee says it is also wise not to remain soaking in the bath for too long -- "the hot water strips away the skin's natural oils." When you come out of the shower or bath, apply a rich body lotion to dampen the skin.

For the face, she recommends using mild products "that won't leave your skin parched, and reapply throughout the day." And use a petroleum jelly-based product to moisturize your lips, because they "have no internal moisture-producing system," Bee reminds.
