Step into Future Style
Fashion is an evanescent thing at best, and nowhere is that more true than in footwear. The '90s, says London style expert Melanie Rickey, is "now a dirty word in fashion." So it's goodbye to trainers, flip-flops and flatties and hello to kitten-heeled slingbacks and pumps.
"As the summer progresses," she says, "brick feet will slowly but surely make way for dainty feet." That, in turn, will mean a lot of other changes -- "the way we walk, our posture, and the way we carry, wear and choose our clothes."
In addition to slingbacks and pumps, Rickey says fashions will include stack-heeled "peep-toe" sandals and "full-on," pointy, sexy numbers "with or without a bow."
For women who have never worn them before, she adds, they'll find these new styles "exciting and chic," in real or fake snakeskin, croc-effect, leather, denim and suede. And, says Rickey, "it's entirely possible to match the majority of these shoes to purses -- another ladylike fashion that is gaining ground."
