Software Delivers Dream Landscapes
So you want to turn that patch of unkempt lawn -- or that unsightly gravel pile -- into a landscape masterpiece.
The Complete LandDesigner software package ($49.95) from Sierra On-Line combines four gardening and landscape design programs allowing gardening fans to create their own photo-realistic dream landscape, manipulate the photo to change the design, search an encyclopedia for full color photos of plants and build a custom deck.
The 3d Landscape 2.0 program walks the user through the design process and includes an Internet WalkAabout feature allowing gardeners to share designs over the Web. There are also Shadow Caster and Growth over Time features to view realistic growth of the plants chosen.
The Photo LandDesigner allows the landscape fan to drop images of different plants and other objects into their dream garden or yard. The Garden Encyclopaedia provides what a Sierra spokesman terms a "virtual nursery" with one-button search features to find plants by using common or botanical names.
Deck builders-in-waiting can view an animated deck building sequence from the ground up complete with printouts of designs in both two and three dimensions to complete a materials shopping list.
