Sleep: Environment Is Key

Waking up more tired than when you went to bed may have more to do with your sleep environment than your bio-rhythm.

The body needs a good night's sleep to replace worn-out cells and re-energize organs and muscles. Sleep experts at Dial-A-Mattress say the necessary ingredients for a sound snooze include the right temperature, darkness and a comfortable mattress.

In the bedroom, cooler is better, with an ideal temperature around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Curtains should be adequate for keeping out light, and there has to be enough room to sprawl or curl if the bed is being shared.

Preparation for sleep also is key. Avoiding caffeine, relaxing and keeping to a steady routine are essential.
