Shoe Fashions Fitting for Comfort

You can't look or feel your best if your feet are killing you. The answer to helping those hurtin' tootsies is all in the proper footwear, say the folks at the American Podiatric Medicine Association.

For women, high-heeled shoes are often the obvious culprit. Foot doctors strongly recommend no heel be higher than two inches. Despite being a safety problem, they can end up affecting your posture and causing back pain.

But if you must wear high-heels, alternate with a good pair of comfortable sneakers or switch to the newer pumps which combine comfort with businesslike style. If fashion's not your main concern, then go for a laced walking shoe with a padded and relatively wider heel.

To get the best fit, always measure your feet while standing, try out both shoes and walk around the store. Don't, they say, just buy the same size as your last pair. Your feet will change size over time and will be largest late in the day. That's the best time to fit yourself for your newest pumps.
