Perfume Collectors Smell Big Bucks
Aside from the pleasant aromas, those fancy perfume bottles cluttering up your dresser could turn a nice profit. Some are selling at up to $15,000 at auction.
Linda Brine, founder of the Perfume Bottle Collectors' Club in Britain, has a few suggestions for would-be collectors in the world of fragrance ephemera. For instance, limited-edition bottles by Lalique and Baccarat are good bets -- up to $2,400 for the right container.
"Just because a fragrance isn't expensive doesn't mean the bottle isn't valuable," Brine says. "In the United States, there's a big market for Avon bottles, and Bourjois Soir de Paris bottles -- an inexpensive scent -- are highly collectible."
Brine suggests collectors save the packaging when they buy a fragrance to wear. "When you've finished with it, put the bottle back in the packaging and hang onto it. It could be valuable one day."
