Online Tips for Working Out the Kinks
Long hours of sitting in a seat on a train, plane or automobile can reduce circulation and leave your joints sore and a little stiff.
The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America's online Exercise While Traveling may help work out some of those kinks.
Slowly tilting the head to the right and left shoulder, holding your head for about five seconds when it is as close to the shoulder as possible, is one suggested exercise to help relieve tension in your neck. Repeatedly shrugging your shoulder and, while sitting straight, turning your head as far as you can to the left and right are other suggested stress and tension relievers.
If you have room to stand up, stretch your arms out and give yourself a big hug, then slowly un-hug yourself and hold your arms out to your side. Exhale as you hug and inhale as you un-hug to focus on breathing and its relaxing effects.
To relieve fluid retention and stiffness in the ankles and stretch calf muscles, repeatedly point and flex each foot followed by clockwise and counterclockwise rotation of the foot and ankle. And simply closing your hand into a fist and opening it by stretching the fingers will help relieve fluid buildup in the finger joints, the association says.
