Making Faraway Places Feel Like Home
When traveling takes you to faraway places with strange-sounding names, try creating a home away from home wherever you land. Take it from hotelier and professional traveler Grace Leo-Andrieu -- it's the way to rescue both body and beauty.
Leo-Andrieu, herself a ThirdAger who travels thousands of miles a year running her hotels located worldwide, says the first thing to do when you get to your room is to "throw open the windows to let in air and light." Next, unpack and hang up all your clothes, even if you're there for just one night, so you "don't feel like you're living out of a suitcase."
Take along plenty of pure essential oils and use them in the bath, which is "a great way to unwind after a long flight," she says. And don't forget the moisturizer ("vital when traveling") plus plenty of shampoo, conditioner, soap and even a few scented candles. And pack items to personalize your room. "I take a framed picture of my daughter everywhere," says Leo-Andrieu.
Traveling can be unsettling, Leo Andrieu says, and jet lag, foreign languages, different climates and strange foods can play havoc with the inner self and the outer appearance. Taking along little touches of home can make all the difference to both your complexion and your constitution.
