Losing Weight on the Web
ThirdAge Staff
Daily encounters and moral support provided by some diet Web sites can produce results that parallel those obtained from working with a nutritionist, according to a recent study conducted by researchers at Brown University.
ThirdAge's free Say YES plan provides medically sound diet information and the opportunity to join supportive forums and obtain daily encouragement. SelfCare.com offers a free daily diet library, information on more than 200 health conditions and purchasing information for guaranteed diet and exercise products.
Cyberdiet.com provides nutritional breakdowns of packaged and fast-foods, advice on exercise and programs designed around specialized diets, such as diabetic and vegan.
There are also diet Web sites that cost money to join and that charge monthly fees. One of these is eDiets.com. Offering a wide variety of services, eDiets gives you the chance to have personalized chats with weight-loss, nutrition and even eating-disorders specialists. eDiets also provides a weight-loss program designed specifically for men.
Shape Up America is replete with guidelines for preventing and dealing with obesity, and it is a nonprofit site. The proceeds are donated to a nationwide nonprofit health program.
