Lois Wyse: Reuniting with Adopted Daughter

DEAR LOIS: My daughter was adopted when a week old; that was thirty years ago. Recently she traced me to South Africa where I was living; now I am in the United States. My daughter is coming to New Hampshire from England to attend my wedding this summer. We have established a regular e-mail relationship, and she seems very level-headed and self-assured. Her parents are also happy for her that she has "found" me. I just wanted to know if there are any groups or information available for birth mothers about to meet their adopted children for the first time? I want our meeting to be the best it can be. MAUREEN

DEAR MAUREEN: I would suggest that you contact two of the internet sites for locating people: http://www.bigfoot.com/ or http://www.four11.com/ Because they are involved in bringing together birth mothers and their children, they may also have follow-through that will be helpful. Sounds as if you've already made a wonderful start on your own. Best wishes for a new marriage and your new-found daughter.
