Join the Battle Against Arthritis

The Arthritis Foundation kicks off the first annual Take Action Against Arthritis Day May 18. Sixty-million Americans are expected to develop arthritis by the year 2020 as baby boomers age.

Bill Mulvihill, chair of the Arthritis Foundation, says, "There is something you can do about arthritis. Arthritis is not just aches and pains; and it is not just an elderly person's disease."

Dr. Steven Abramson says treatment is critical early on. In his words, "Research has shown that the majority of joint damage takes place within the first two years of disease onset."

A recent Centers for Disease Control survey found 40 percent of people with chronic joint symptoms have not been diagnosed by a doctor. The take-home message from the Arthritis Foundation is to seek help: see your doctor, call 1-800-283-7800 or visit the Website.
