Ignorance and Incontinence

Incontinence disorders among women have doubled over the past decade. But Jennifer Peters, manager of clinical education for MedAmicus says ignoring the problem won't help.
Peters says only about half of all women with such problems seek advice from physicians and that negligence is the leading cause of suffering from the disorder. There's a Bladder Health Questionnaire at the Web site that individuals can take to their doctors for evaluation.
There are four primary types of urinary incontinence in women: stress, urge, overflow and reflex. Peters says urodynamic testing -- a quick and painless process -- can identify which type of problem a woman has.
Treatment options include exercise, medication or various medical and surgical procedures.
