Hints for Condo Living
If you're among the one in six Americans living in a condominium, cooperative or a member of a homeowners' association, there's some useful information available at the Community Associations Institute (CAI) Web site.
The nonprofit association created to educate and represent the nation's 205,000 community associations has a special course for homeowners, called the ABC's, offered by local chapters. Other courses are tailored for community association board members and managers.
The site index leads you to CAI consumer information brochures that help you preserve, protect and enhance your investment. The Pearls of Wisdom section contains 116 tips grouped into categories such as being a good homeowner or board member and how to conduct productive meetings.
Much of the advice holds true for anyone, not just condo owners. An example: Work With Complainers advises you to try working together, as two people cooperating are more effective than one person telling another to change.
