Get Help Coping With Change

Most people manage to adapt to the changes in their everyday lives. But there are those people who have a real difficulty coping with transition, in some cases finding it unbearable.

The medical community calls this condition adjustment disorder. Find out more about it at The Health Connection.

Some of the more common precipitators of adjustment disorder are the death of a spouse or loved one, a fire or other disaster in the home, loss of a job or divorce. Many people suffer pain from these events, experiencing depression, anxiety and anti-social behavior. If the problem is not taken care of, it can become debilitating.

Adjustment disorder is usually temporary and treatable. Extreme cases may require a few days in the hospital where most patients are treated with counseling, support groups and anti-depressants.
