Get a Good Night's Sleep

Tired of counting sheep into the wee hours? Sleep experts at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina offer some simple online tips for getting a good night's rest.

Most of the advice is pure common sense, like avoiding drinking caffeine-rich beverages in the evening -- or during the afternoon if you know such substances can have a long-term effect.

Taking a warm bath or shower before turning in for the night will also help relax your tired muscles and help ease mental stresses.

Avoid pillows and mattresses that are too soft, since they provide poor support, which could lead to a restless night. And try to keep the bedroom cool, which experts say is more conducive to healthful sleep than warmth.
