Face Lifts -- A Guy Thing, Too
Move over Liz Taylor and Linda Tripp, face lifts are a guy thing, too. The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary says Baby Boomer male executives make up one-third of its facial plastic and reconstructive surgery -- a 100 percent increase from five years ago.
Dr. Arthur Millman says most middle-aged executive men seeking surgery have a very specific goal in mind. He says they want to look healthy, not younger. He says despite the best exercise regimens, men begin to see the signs of aging when they hit 50 -- drooping jowls, overlapping eyelids and bags.
One of the frustrations with the best cosmetic eyelid surgery is that it lasts only two or three years before the skin wrinkles, re-droops and another round is required. Millman says men want a more permanent change so he's developed a procedure that lasts up to eight years by toning up the muscles and supportive connective tissues.
Millman's team also has a laser procedure that combines an eyelid and upper face lift with a nose or neck procedure. Founded in 1820, the not-for-profit New York Eye and Ear Infirmary is the oldest specialty hospital in the Western Hemisphere.
