Deal With the Snorer
First it was second-hand smoke and now it's second-hand snoring. Doctors say if your bedmate snores you could be losing an hour of sleep, which obviously could cause physical and emotional problems -- not to mention the toll on your relationship.
The solutions are quite varied from an all-natural pill called SnoreStop to a facemask or corrective laser surgery.
A recent report in Drug Store News says double-blind tests of SnoreStop indicate it can significantly reduce snoring if taken prior to bedtime. But the Mayo Clinic recommends a facemask with an air pump to temporarily stop snoring.
Meanwhile, the Center for Corrective Surgery in Philadelphia says it has perfected a procedure -- coblation -- to permanently stop the problem. The painless procedure uses radio frequency energy to reduce the volume of swollen tissue in the nose and uses a laser to target the excess tissue of the throat. The procedure is done in the office in 10 minutes and patients immediately resume their daily activities.
