Deal with Less Sleep

If you really didn't miss losing that hour of sleep when Daylight Saving Time kicked in last weekend, you're not alone. As Years Advance, People Sleep Less, Wake Earlier reminds us of that.

This article by Richard Knox for EndurePlus.com says more than half the people over age 65 have persistent trouble sleeping. But he says diagnosable sleep disorders are not solely to blame.

Knox says research shows that healthy, normal elders with no identifiable disorders sleep less and wake earlier than young adults. The elders also have more nocturnal wakefulness and spend less time in deep sleep.

The changes begin in middle age. The range of time narrows in which people can sleep soundly. Some individuals simply can't sleep late anymore and become more intolerant of sleep deprivation.
