Dating After Divorce -- With Kids

After the Big D -- divorce, most adults eventually will feel ready for the Next Big D -- dating. Resuming a social life that'll undoubtedly include dating, can become quite a dilemma, especially when there are kids involved.

Vicki Lansky writes about the problems single parents face in her article Dating, Sex and the Single Parent at Divorce Online. Lansky describes a parent's new dating habit as threatening to a child's world, posing competition for a parent's love and affection.

Divorced parents may want to begin a new social life by including the kids, perhaps through the popular organization Parents Without Partners. Lansky says this lets you socialize as a family and helps the child to feel less threatened.

Lansky also offers numerous dating dos and don'ts, like always meeting your date away from home in the beginning of a new relationship. Also, she advises introducing dates as friends if your child resents your dating.

Take her tips into consideration and do what best fits your life and your family. Happy dating!
