Calculate Your Road to 100

Your chances of reaching the century mark? The Living to 100 Life Expectancy Calculator claims it can give you some hints.

Plug in the answers to a series of questions about your lifestyle. You'll get back an estimate of how long you'll live and an explanation of how each item is related to your longevity potential.

The calculator was designed by doctors at Harvard Medical School who've conducted studies on aging and published the book "Living to 100" (Basic Books, $25). The questions came out of their research, and the authors say their centenarian subjects would all score high.

The average person is born with a set of genes that would allow him to live to 85 years of age, maybe longer, the authors say. But if you've also had the foresight to be born into a long-lived family, eat the right foods, exercise and avoid the wrong habits, you could add at least 10 quality years to your lifespan. Fail to heed the messages of preventive medicine and you can start subtracting.
