Bearing Up Boldly
We all have our crosses to bear, but the Guinness Book of Records says no one has done it over a greater distance than Arthur Blessitt, who for more than 30 years has carried a 12-foot cross on foot around the world.
The Web site says Blessitt's journey is listed in Guinness as the "World's Longest Walk." It says he has carried the cross and walked across 278 nations or more than 33,000 miles.
The site offers 16 different sections, including an overview of the media coverage he has received, journey news and photos, a step-by-step guide on how to build a 12-foot cross and "personal thoughts about cross-walking."
Blessitt says on the site he began his world tour on Christmas Day, 1969, after he "received a call from Jesus to carry the cross and witness the love of Christ on the road sides and streets of the world." Prior to that, he says, he owned a ministry and coffee house on Hollywood's Sunset Strip.
