Glorious colors aren't the only thing exploding as autumn moves south -- those pesky pollen spores are also having a field day, sending many to the drugstore for relief from itchy eyes and running noses.
Few individuals with allergies can escape the culprits, from sagebrush in the south, to northern forest mold. The National Allergy Bureau says you can take commonsense steps to keep the spores at bay.
Minimize outdoor activity during the high pollen period between 5 and 10 am. This is the rule of thumb except on rainy, cloudy or windy days when all day is safe because spores travel at a slower rate.
If you like bringing the outdoors inside, decorate with large, brightly colored flowers loaded with larger pollen spores not likely to trigger allergic reactions. The only thing bringing 100 percent relief is that first frost on the pumpkin.
